How to Remove the IC Unit From an NES Controller

The Nintendo Entertainment System was a 1980s first-generation gaming console. The NES controller resembles a thick candy bar, although a bit wider, with a set of buttons and a direction pad. A defective IC unit, also known as a "chip," inside the controller causes it to react to user input incorrectly. To replace the IC chip yourself, first remove the existing one from inside the controller. Household tools will be needed.
