How to Get a Pokemon to Evolve When It's Over the Level for Evolving

As of June 2011, the "Pokemon" series has seen more than 10 games released since its first release, "Pokemon Red" and "Pokemon Blue," in 1998. One thing that has remained constant throughout the series is Pokemon evolving into new forms. The most common way for a Pokemon to evolve is reaching a certain level. For example, Rattata evolves to Raticate when it has reached Level 20. However, you may catch or be traded a Pokemon that is over the level for evolving, like catching a Rattata at Level 40. It is still possible to evolve a Pokemon when it is over the level for evolving.

Instructions

    • 1

Place the Pokemon that is over the level for evolving into the first slot of your Pokemon lineup.

    • 2

Use that Pokemon to battle other Pokemon -- either Pokemon from the wild or from other trainers.

    • 3

Defeat the opposing Pokemon to earn experience. The amount of experience you gain depends on the opposing Pokemon's level.

    • 4

Gain enough experience to raise your Pokemon's level. The amount of experience your Pokemon needs to gain a level is visible from the "Pokemon" menu on each game. When you have reached enough experience to gain a level, your Pokemon, which is over the level required to evolve, evolves into its new form.
