Clear the first two stages, Forest of Illusion 1 and Forest of Illusion 2, by going through their regular exits. This will lead you to Forest of Illusion 3. Regular exits are found simply by navigating Mario as far right as possible until you see a floating bar drifting up and down. Run or jump through the bar to exit the stage.
Enter Forest of Illusion 3 and head right until you reach the checkpoint. Continue right and jump over the gaps in your path until you see the Charging Chuck enemies.
Jump onto the blocks to reach the long green pipe and press down on the directional pad to enter the pipe. This will take you to the secret exit, which is located in a cave.
Use your spin jump to break the blocks that cover the key and key hole. Grab the key and walk into the keyhole to exit the stage. This will unlock the #5 Roy's Castle stage.
Enter the #5 Roy's Castle stage and jump onto the line of brown blocks. They will begin to move and lead you past the boiling lava.
Jump onto the platform beyond the boiling lava and continue right until you reach a spike pit. Then wait for the brown blocks to reach the area with the spike pit and jump onto them. They will guide you past the spike pit.
Jump onto the bridge and continue right until you reach a large door. Press up on the direction pad to enter the door, which leads to Roy's lair.
Defeat Roy by jumping on his head three times. This will unlock the path that leads to Chocolate Island and out of Forest of Illusion.
