How to Beat the End Master of Illusions on Paper Mario

Mario faces the Crystal King, a master of illusions, as the final boss before taking on Bowser in Nintendo 64's "Paper Mario." The Crystal King's signature move is creating two illusionary versions of himself, throwing the player off guard. However with the right attacks, you can render this "illusion" ineffective and defeat the Crystal King.

Instructions

- 1
  Save your game, replenish your HP to full and switch your party member to Watt before starting the boss battle.

  Go right out the door and follow the snowy bridge up to the Crystal King. He will taunt you and then engage in battle.

  Use "Star Storm" immediately to eliminate the crystals he has floating around. He will summon them back again; knock them out as soon as possible each time.

  Power up with "Turbo Charge." This will increase the effects of your attacks. Then use "Chill Out" to knock down his defenses.

  Attack with Watt's "Shock Wave." This will deal some damage, but the Crystal King will heal himself. Repeat Steps 3 through 5 to wear him down. Once weakened, the Crystal King will split into three, two of which are fakes.

  Use "Star Storm" to attack all three and reveal the true Crystal King. He will split himself up again. Repeat "Star Storm." His HP should now be between 2 and 5.

  Defeat the Crystal King with one last "Shock Wave" from Watt.
