How to Use an .ips File With ZSNES

ZSNES, a Super Nintendo emulator that allows you to play ROMs of Super Nintendo games that you legally own, has the ability to apply .ips patch files on the fly. The .ips files make changes to ROMs, typically either allowing ZSNES to play the ROM at a faster speed, translate the language, or make other changes to the game. Since ZSNES applies the .ips files when the specific ROM is loaded, there is no need to manually patch any of your ROMs.

Instructions

    • 1

Start ZSNES and click on "Config" and then "Options." Ensure that there is a check next to "Enable Auto-Patch."

    • 2

Ensure that the .ips file has the same name as the ROM you want it to be applied to, with the exception of the file extension (e.g. game.sfc and game.ips, where game.sfc is the ROM file).

    • 3

Copy the .ips file into the directory where your ROM is stored.

    • 4

Load the ROM in ZSNES and the .ips patch will automatically be applied to the ROM at runtime.
