The NES was released in 1985 in the United States. In addition to a standard controller, the NES also came with a light gun accessory, dubbed the NES Zapper. The Zapper, compatible with such games as "Duck Hunt," "Hogan's Alley" and "Gumshoe," uses light to detect what you are aiming at and whether you hit it. Once you insert a compatible game into the NES and plug in the Zapper, the NES Zapper is ready to use.

Plug the Zapper into the first controller port on the front of your NES.

Insert a Zapper compatible game, such as "Duck Hunt" or "Gumshoe," and turn on the NES.

Point the Zapper directly at the screen, aiming at the object you want to shoot.

Press the trigger on the underside of the Zapper to take a shot.
