Tetris Hand Held Games for Kids

Single Game Handheld

• Single-game handhelds don't have cartridges; gameplay is, by the nature of the device, restricted to a single game. There are several versions like this containing Tetris. For instance, Radica, makers of handheld Freecell and other solitare games, has a Tetris handheld. Mattel acquired Radica in 2006, and produced their own Tetris handheld. These machines are generally black and white and have limited graphics and sound.

Nintendo Game Boy, Game Boy Color, and Game Boy Pocket

• In 1989, Tetris was packaged with the original Game Boy, so if you had a Game Boy, you had Tetris. And considering that the Game Boy sold 150 million systems worldwide, a lot of people had Tetris. That's good news. Since it is common, the game is easy to find on the secondary market and will not require a big investment. The Game Boy Color and Game Boy Pocket are also able to play the classic Tetris cart.

Nintendo DS and DSi

• The Nintendo DS and DSi handheld devices bring Tetris game play to a whole new level. Not only can you play the classic game against the computer, but now you can battle other players from around the world through the DS and DSi wireless connector. Additionally, Tetris DS offers a handful of new game types that bring some variety into the classic tetromino game.

Sony PlayStation Portable (PSP)

• Since Nintendo doesn't hold an exclusive license to the game, Tetris is also available on other systems like the Sony PSP. Boasting 12 unlockable Tetris versions, Tetris for PSP offers the same classic game play you remember, plus has new touches. If you want to play online, though, you are out of luck. Multiplayer for the PSP is not supported.
