What Are Pac-Man Tips & Tricks & Hints

"Pac-Man," one of the most iconic video games of all time, is basically an endless chase game within a maze. The plot is nothing more than the yellow hero running from four ghosts. Unlike many video games that followed it, "Pac-Man" has no cheats or secret bonuses. However, there are some strategies that can make the most of all the running around.
  1. Speed

    • When Pac-Man eats pellets, he clears paths. Pac-Man travels faster on paths with no pellets. Clear the long straight paths early if you can. When you dip into the corners with a ghost on your tail, it will be easier to outrun the ghost once you get back on the clear path.

    The Tunnel

    • A tunnel in the middle of the screen allows Pac-Man to exit one side and instantly enter the other. The ghosts go through the tunnel at a much slower pace than Pac-Man. If you have dots on the other side to clear, stall near the tunnel entrance and get one or more ghosts close to you. Dive into the tunnel and you'll have a second or two head start before the ghosts join you on the other side..

    Power Pellets

    • A power pellet is a larger than average pellet. There are only four of them, and they are in the corners of the maze. After Pac-Man eats one, the ghosts turn blue and run because Pac-Man can now "chomp" them for extra points. Furthermore, the ghosts are sent back to their cage in the center of the game for a few seconds, which gives you more ghost-free time to clear the maze. This role reversal lasts for just a few seconds, so you want to get as many ghosts around you as possible before you eat one. Set up Pac-Man right next to the power pellet and face him in its direction. The instant the ghosts get on the same row as Pac-Man, eat the power pellet. The ghost or ghosts near you should be easy to catch..

    Bonuses

    • Bonus items, which appear as different kinds of food, show up twice per maze. They'll appear just beneath the ghost cage. The bonuses increase in value with each maze. These will add to your score, but they don't give you the benefit of becoming invincible like the power pellets. Go for them only if you have a safe run.

    Safe Spot

    • The safe spot is the right side of a T-shaped part of the maze directly beneath the ghost cage. Pac-Man can sit there for as long as you need to rest and the ghosts will ignore him. This will only work if Pac-Man enters the T-spot from below, and no ghosts see him go there. Watch the eyes of each ghost to see if they're looking at Pac-Man before you make your move.
