How to Clean Your SNES

The classic Super Nintendo Electronic System console was released in 1991, with hundreds of games available in a variety of genres. If you are like many other gamers who like to hold on to their old systems, playing it from time to time, you will want to get your SNES in the best condition possible. Cleaning it regularly can greatly extend the life of your console and even make it play games smoother.

Things You'll Need

  • Generic cleaner
  • Wash cloth
  • Scrubbing brush
  • Compressed air canister

Instructions

    • 1

Unplug all of the wires connected to the SNES. This includes the controller cords, power cord and other connectors.

    • 2

Spray some of the cleaner -- this can be glass cleaner or any multipurpose surface cleaner -- on the washcloth. Spray a good amount but not enough to completely soak the cloth.

    • 3

Wipe off the outside of the console, spraying more cleaner as needed. If the washcloth becomes too dirty, swap it out for a new. For especially tough cleaning jobs, use a scrubbing pad with a little bit of the cleaning product on it. Avoid getting any cleaning fluid into the controller slots or cartridge bay.

    • 4

Hold open the cartridge bay with one hand and spray out the inside with the canister of compressed air. If the console is especially dusty inside, hold the console upside down, while still propping open cartridge bay with your finger, and spray the air canister so the dust will fall out. Also spray the inside controller ports on the front of the console.

    • 5

Wipe the controllers with the washcloth, applying more cleaner if needed, to get the dirt and grime off.
