How to Connect a Dreamcast to the Internet

The Sega Dreamcast was Sega's answer to Sony's PlayStation 2, but was unfortunately never as popular or successful as the other system. The Dreamcast turned out to be the last console Sega ever produced. Like the PlayStation 2 and the Xbox, the Sega Dreamcast came with online capabilities that allowed its owners -- providing they had a dial-up or broadband modem -- to connect and play with other players online with certain games. Hook your old Dreamcast up to your broadband Internet today, provided you still have the broadband modem installed.

Instructions

    • 1

Plug your Ethernet cable into your router, and the other end into the broadband connector on the back of the Dreamcast.

    • 2

Turn on the Dreamcast and insert your Dreamcast Web browser disk.

    • 3

Select "OK," then select "Options" followed by "Internet Connection."

    • 4

Enter in your name and your desired username and password in the appropriate boxes.

    • 5

Enter "0.0.0.0" for the Internet Protocol, subnet, gateway and DNS entry options. This causes your Dreamcast to obtain IP addresses automatically for each of the entries on its own. You may now browse the Internet or play games online with your Dreamcast.
