How to Use Gameshark Activation Codes

Entering a cheat code into a GameShark device for a home video game console changes the way the game is programmed. GameShark codes are designed to adjust the way the game displays during playback, allowing you, for example, to have infinite ammunition in a shooting game or infinite lives in a platform game. A cartridge-based GameShark is available for cartridge-based systems, such as the Nintendo 64. Consoles that use CD, DVD or Blu-ray discs, such as the PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360, have disc-based GameSharks.

Instructions

  Connect your GameShark to your gaming console. For cartridge-based GameSharks, insert the cartridge into the console and connect the game cartridge to the top of the GameShark. For disc-based systems, insert the GameShark into the console and load it as you would any other game.

  Turn on your console. The GameShark menu will load.

  Enter the code you want to use in the game using your controller. GameShark devices come with a booklet featuring selected codes for selected games. You can also find these codes online at such sites as GameFAQs.com.

  Select the "Start Game" option. Cartridge-based consoles will start the game automatically. For disc-based consoles, you must remove the GameShark disc and insert the game disc to begin the game. The code activates once the game starts.
