How to Hook Up an SNES

The Super Nintendo Entertainment System, referred to as the "SNES" by gamers, is a video game console released in the early 1990s. Despite the fact that the SNES is roughly two decades old as of the writing of this piece, you are still able to use the console with modern-day television sets. Connecting an SNES to a newer TV, such as an LCD TV, is not much different than connecting an Xbox or PlayStation to a set. Those with older TVs require a special attachment to use the SNES.

    • 1

Connect the device's "Multi-Out Connector" to the SNES. The port for this plug is located on the back of the SNES.

    • 2

Connect the plug-ins located on the opposite end of the Multi-Out Connector to the colored Audio/Video "In" ports located on either the back or side of the television. Match the colors of all three plugs with the colors of the television's plug-ins (for example, match yellow with yellow).

    • 3

Plug the SNES power cord into its slot on the back of the gaming console. Plug the other end of the SNES power cord into an electrical outlet.

    • 4

Turn the TV channel to the station that corresponds to the AV outlets on the TV (for example, "AV 1" if using the AV 1 plug-ins on the TV).

    • 5

Insert a game cartridge into the SNES, and turn on the gaming console. The main menu screen for the game appears.
