Pong
The Magnavox Oddysey was the first home video game console ever produced, but Atari's release of the Pong system initiated the console revolution. Pong was one of the first coin-operated games ever made. It simulates a tennis match using extremely simple graphics. In 1976, Atari released the Pong system. It was a home console that connected to the user's television. It played only one game, Pong. Atari designed the console specifically for Pong. Thus, Pong became the first major arcade game to make the transfer to homes.
Pac-Man
Atari originally released Pac-Man for home gaming on its 2600 system. Namco created the game for arcade play. Using a joystick, the player maneuvered the Pac-Man throughout the maze. The object of each level is to eat all the dots while simultaneously evading the ghosts that are chasing Pac-Man. After Pac-Man consumes all the dots, the player advances to the next level. Pac-Man is one of the most famous video games ever produced and continues to attract each successive generation with its classic simplicity.
Frogger
Originally manufactured by Konami, Sega first licensed Frogger for the transfer to home consoles. Frogger remains a well known title. The object of the game is to have the frog traverse a busy highway and waterway while avoiding various obstacles and dangers. Frogger has appeared in many forms on numerous home systems, and for use on home computers.
Galaga
Galaga is a classic space-based arcade game. The player maneuvers the ship while firing at an onslaught of attacks from alien-like creatures which drop down from above. The ship can only move laterally across the bottom of the screen. After the player has defeated all of the creatures, he advances to the next round. There are intermittent challenge rounds where the player simply tries to defeat as many creatures as possible to gain bonus points. There is also a special enemy which fires a tractor beam at the ship, potentially capturing it, with potentially good or bad subsequent outcomes for the player. Numerous home systems have Galaga releases.
