How to Catch a Fish in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time

The fishing mini-game in "The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time" is an entertaining diversion from normal game-play. By taking Link, the game's hero, to the fishing pond in the eastern corner of Lake Hylia, you can purchase a pole and fish for as long as you desire. Fish come in all sizes, and you can win prizes by reeling in the larger ones. Once you've mastered the basic controls, you'll be able to land a whopper in no time.

Instructions

  Speak with the man at the fishing pond and pay him 20 rupees for a pole. The man will then give you instructions on basic controls for the fishing mini-game. For better odds, try fishing just before sunrise or sunset.

  Guide Link over to the pond and select a location to fish.

  Press the B button to cast the line. For more precise placement during a cast, press the A button while angling the control stick down to cause the line to drop.

  Wait for a fish to approach your lure. Use the control stick to wiggle the line and entice the fish into biting.

  Press and hold the A button when the fish bites. This will reel the fish in. You can also move the control stick to help guide the fish toward Link.

  Use the control stick to spin the fish in a circle when it gets close to Link. This method will help bring the fish close enough for Link to collect it.
