Anti Guy
The first villains you face in Chapter Four are a few Shy Guys. The dark Shy Guy in the group -- Anti Guy -- is the only one you need to fight to move on, plus facing the other Shy Guys will deplete your HP before you face Anti Guy. Anti Guy has 50 HP and an attack level of 12, so level up Mario appropriately. To beat Anti Guy, repeatedly use the attack Bow's Outta Sight and Mario's strongest moves.
Big Lantern Guy
After you exit the Green and Red Stations, you'll face Big Lantern Guy. Big Lantern Guy has 40 HP and can be beaten with a slightly different strategy. Send Bow out first, then use the smack move on the dark lantern to light up the level. Repeat Mario's strongest jump attack on Big Lantern Guy's head until he's destroyed.
Cookbook
In Chapter Four, collecting the cookbook will let you create items that can refill your HP and FP before battling the mini bosses in the level. To find the cookbook, feed Gourmet Guy a cake. Gourmet Guy will jump into the air and throw his cookbook. Collect the cookbook, then bring it to Tayce T. in Toad Town to create new bonus items.
Other Hints
Some strategies in "Paper Mario" are helpful for all levels, including Chapter Four. In Toad Town, walk to the right of the Post Office. Approach the three blue creatures and walk in circles around the character on the left. You will receive free hearts for as long as you circle the creature. Since cash lets players buy items that boost HP and FP, another helpful part of Toad Town is a mini-games area that earns players coins. South of Toad Town, turn left immediately after you enter the farm. Hammer the tree to trigger a pipe to Play Room on your right.
