Fortress Family
Some enemies can only be found in fortresses. The enemies in this family are Boo Diddly, Boom Boom, Dry Bones, Hot Foot, Podobo, Roto-Disc, Bowser Statue, Stretch, and Thwomp. Avoid these enemies if you can, or kill them using the Invincible Star power-up.
Goomba Family
The Goombas are mobile mushrooms found throughout "Super Mario Bros. 3." The Goomba family is made up of Giant Goomba, Goomba, Brown Para Goomba, Light Brown/ Dark Brown Para Goombas, and the Pile Drive Micro Goombas. Use jump or fireball attacks to kill Goombas.
Hammer Brothers Family
The Hammer Brothers are Koopas that walk upright and throw hammers at Mario. The family consists of Boomerang Brother, Fiery Brother, Hammer Brother and the Sledge Brother. Keep your distance from the Hammers. They can be beaten with fireballs.
Military Koopas
Koopas are usually turtles, but they can occasionally be other objects such as bullets and bombs. These military Koopas are Bob-Omb, Bullet Bill, Cannonball, Missile Bill and Rocky Wrench. Stomp attacks, fireballs and Invincible Stars all work well against the military Koopas.
Koopa Troopas
"Super Mario Bros. 3's" turtle Koopa Troopa group is made up of Paratroopa Koopas, Giant Koopas and regular Koopas. The Paratroopa Koopas are either green or red and try to hop into Mario. The Colossal Green Paratroopa Koopa is a large hopping Koopa with wings. The Giant Koopas are massive red and green-shelled Koopas that try to walk into Mario. Koopas can be killed with jumps or fireball attacks.
Piranha Plants
Piranha Plants either bite or shoot fireballs. The munchers are the immobile Piranha plants that pop out of pipes; the Piranhacus Gigantacus, a massive Piranha Plant that appears in World 4, and the fireball-spitting Venus Fire Trap. The mobile Piranhas are small white Nippers and the Ptooties, a plant with a spiked ball. Fireballs and Invincible Starmen are the only attacks that work against Piranha Plants.
Water Enemies
Fish, jellyfish and plants make up the water enemies. Their names are Big Bertha, Baby Cheep, Blooper, Blooper With Kids, Boss Bass, Cheep-Cheep, Jelectro, Lava Lotus and Spiny Cheep-Cheep. Use fireballs to kill water enemies if you cannot avoid them.
Miscellaneous Enemies
The game has many enemies that don't fall into any category. They include the Angry Sun, Buster Beetle, Buzzy, Chain Chomp, Fire Chomp, Firesnake, Lakitu, Para-Beetles, Spike, Spiny and Spiny with eggs. As these enemies don't follow a theme, different tactics are necessary for different ones. Most of them are vulnerable to fireballs and Invincible Starmen.
