Title Screen Cheats

• At the title screen, when prompted to press "Start," you can instead enter a few codes with some button presses which must be entered very quickly, followed by pressing the "Start" button. With the PS2 controller, access a level select by pressing "Up," "Down," "Down," "Left," "Right" and "X." You can only play the level you select, and then you will return to the title screen. To view the developer's own high scores on the levels, enter "Right," "Right," "Up," "Up," "Down" and "X." To access the sound test, enter "Down," "Down," "Down," Left," "Right" and "X." For these three codes if using the GameCube version, press the "A" button in the place of "X."

Sound Test Cheats

• Selecting certain options from the sound test menu can unlock cheats, mostly involving artwork. At the end of each entry, press "Start" to activate the cheat. Select the sounds PCM12 and then DA11 to view an image of Tails beside a green car before entering debug mode; enter PCM07 and DA07 to access special stages; enter PCM11 and DA09 to view some artwork; enter PM 03 and DA 01 to view an image of Sonic, Metal Sonic, and Robotnik; enter PCM12 and DA25 to view a human-like Sonic with a message written in Japanese and enter PM04 and DA21 to view a super-hero portrayal of Sonic.

Bonus Points at the End of Stages

• Completing stages at a particular time can yield bonus points. Using the debug mode to freeze the clock makes the task easy. Completing a stage at exactly 30 seconds yields 50,000 points, 45 seconds yields 10,000, one minute yields 5,000, one minute and 30 second yields 4,000, two minutes yields 3,000, three minutes yields 2,000, four minutes yields a 1,000, and five minutes yields 500 points.

Make Sonic Leave the Game

• Simply let Sonic sit still in a level. Do not touch any controls for three minutes, and Sonic will say "I'm outta here" and the game ends.
