How to Revive in EarthBound

"EarthBound," also known as "Mother 2," is the sequel to a game exclusively released in Japan called "Mother." The game developed a cult following as a result of its quirkiness, evidenced by enemies like New Age Retro Hippie and oddball characters like the race known simply as "Mr. Saturn," a perennial fan favorite. This offbeat RPG has several options for reviving characters that have lost consciousness upon losing their hitpoints (HP).

Instructions

Go to the hospital. (This is the only way to revive fallen allies for the better part of the game.) If someone in your party passes out, you can try running away from the battle if you feel that you are going to be defeated. Head to the nearest hospital --- each major city has one --- and speak with the nurse at the front desk. Tell her you want to see the fallen party member --- Ness, Paula, Jeff or Poo --- and she will charge you for the hospital's services. This rate goes up as you progress through the game, but you may return to Onett for the cheapest rate.

Use status-healing items to revive fallen allies during or outside of battle. Secret Herb --- which you can buy for $380 in the Caveman's Shop in Winters, the shop in Saturn Valley, the shop closest to the dock in Summers, Hassan's Shop in Scaraba, the man's shop in the Oasis near the Pyramid and the Business Man's shop in Deep Darkness --- revives allies, but only with a very small amount of HP. Horn of Life, which costs $1,780 at the Saturn Valley shop, revives allies and gives them full HP. Cup of Lifenoodles has the same effect, but this item is only found in gift boxes scattered throughout the world.

Use Healing Gamma or Healing Omega. Ness and Poo automatically learn this ability at levels 53 and 35, respectively, and it costs 20 Psychic Points (PP) to use. This ability, like the Secret Herb, only revives the character, but does not restore HP. Healing Omega is exclusive to Poo; he learns it at level 52. It costs 38 PP to use, but it revives and restores all HP to the person you use it on.

Use Paula's Pray ability during battle --- this should be your absolute last resort for reviving allies. Praying elicits a variety of lights that envelop both parties on the battlefield. For example, one of the more common effects is a "Subtle Light," which restores some HP for each party member. However, there is a chance, though very slight, that the parties will be enveloped in a "Rainbow Colored Light," which will revive anyone who fell unconscious during battle --- including enemies --- and restore all HP.
