Gameplay
The SNES version of Monopoly is exactly what you get from a standard variation of the board game. Players enter their name, choose your character and start the game. A digital hand rolls the dice for you and your pawn starts moving around the board, buying properties, paying taxes and drawing chance and community chest cards. The game offers only one type of play, the standard rules game, so the goal is always to make the other players go bankrupt.
Graphics
The main in-game screen features a standard Monopoly game board, with the amount of money on the player's bank account near the top of the screen. After each roll of the dice by the realistic digital hand, an animation of the pawn running over the board's blocks appears, with a relevant background (for example houses for sale when on estate area or a dam on a power plant block). The game also features special animations during auctions or for Rich Uncle Pennybags behind bars.
Sound and Controls
The game does not have a continuous theme as a background, and the only sounds you hear are the dice, the "SOLD" stamp, as well as short tunes during animations, including the suspenseful auction music. The controls are limited to pressing one button for each action. There is no reason to remember the controls by heart, as the game always shows you the available options on each round.
Play the Game
Owners of the old Super Nintendo Entertainment System can only find a copy at vintage games stores and websites, such as Retrogames.
"The Monopoly Game 2"
On March 1995, Tomcat Corporation released a second version of the Monopoly game for the SNES -- or Super Famicom as it was branded in Japan -- which was exclusive for the Japanese market. The game was never ported for North American or European systems.
