Follow the game's storyline until you acquire the Pirate Ship and have the opportunity to sail to the town of Melmond.
Talk to the townspeople in Melmond to learn about the vampire.
Visit the White Magic shop in town if you have a white mage in your party and purchase the "Hrm3" spell.
Visit the Black Magic shop if you have a black mage in your party and purchase the "Fir3" spell.
Stock up on as much powerful equipment as you can afford from the weapons and armor shops in Melmond, such as Steel Armor for your fighter and Silver Bracelets for your white and black mages.
Leave Melmond and walk southwest along the coast until you reach the Earth Cave.
Head left immediately in the Earth Cave to find the optional Hall of Giants. Fight the giants here to earn experience points until you reach at least Level 12, at which point you will be strong enough to face the vampire.
Progress through the Earth Cave, defeating the Earth Guardians with fire spells or avoiding them if possible, until you reach a dead-end hallway and door.
Heal your party using healing items or magic to prepare to fight the vampire, then go through the door.
Defeat the vampire by casting high-level fire and harm spells such as "Fir2," "Fir3," "Hrm2" and "Hrm3" with your white and black mages. Have red mages and non-spellcasters use physical attacks, and heal your party when necessary.
Grab the ruby from the treasure chest behind the vampire once he disappears.
