Games for the ZSNES Emulator

The ZSNES Emulator is an open source program that allows gamers to play video games from the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES), the second home video game console from Nintendo. In 2004, the SNES was named the fourth greatest video game console of all time by IGN and although it has been 20 years since its release in 1991 many of the games on the SNES, including the four discussed here, are still considered to be among the best ever made.
  1. Super Mario World

    • The Super Mario series was already well on its way to solidifying its place in gaming history when "Super Mario World" came out and made it a certainty. Although not a huge step up from "Super Mario Bros. 3" on the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES), "Super Mario World" brought enough new features to not only ensure that the series didn't get stale but to ensure that it became one of the most-loved and respected games of all time.

    Final Fantasy IV

    • "Final Fantasy IV" is an influential role-playing game (RPG) that introduced several elements that have become staples of the RPG. First, it featured the now commonplace active, turn-based battle system as well as the ability to summon monsters to your aid during battles. The game follows Cecil as he attempts to stop the dark wizard Golbez from destroying the world. The Final Fantasy series has always been praised for its excellent series of soundtracks and this is no exception.

    Super Mario Kart

    • The most entertaining racer on the SNES has to be "Super Mario Kart," a game which pits various characters from the Super Mario franchise against each other in go-karts. The course design and control system were praised upon its release and all the subsequent incarnations of the series continue to build upon the foundation it laid. The single Grand Prix mode won't take you too long to complete but the multiplayer races will keep you and your friends occupied.

The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past

    • The Legend of Zelda video game series is well respected and each subsequent release is highly anticipated by its devoted fans. "A Link to the Past" is the third game in the series and one that has influenced a host of other action-adventure games. The player controls Link as he battles to save Hyrule and destroy the evil Ganon. As well as the excellent plot and gameplay, the game's soundtrack is full of melodies which you will find yourself humming for days.
