Video game consoles have come a long way from the simple Atari games of yesteryear. With so many sophisticated products on the market as of 2011, choosing the best console for kids can be a daunting task. Factors to consider include ease of use, games available and price. Most video game stores feature game boxes available for testing, which should make choosing the little one's new game system easier.

Nintendo Wii
- Nintendo has been producing game consoles for kids for more than 25 years and could be said to be the expert on such products. The Wii features an innovative set of motion-based controllers and is extremely popular among children and families. With titles such as Lego Star Wars, Mario Sports, Nintendogs + Cats, the Wii provides a large catalog for children. The Wii is also known to feature very simple controllers and interface, making it easy for youngsters.
PlayStation 3
- While the PlayStation 3 may be known to be a more advanced, adult-oriented platform, it also features a number of titles aimed at children. With the release of the PlayStation Move Motion Controller, kids can enjoy an experience through the PlayStation similar to that offered by the Wii. The advantage of a PlayStation may be that it also offers more titles that mom and dad can enjoy as well.
Xbox 360
- The Xbox 360 is also often aimed at an older market, however, it too features many of the same child-friendly titles that are also available for the Wii and PlayStation. Xbox also features many games for middle school-age kids such as Harry Potter and The Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom.
