How to Hook Up an Atari 5200

The Atari 5200 SuperSystem was a home video game console released in 1982. While the 5200 was a technological breakthrough for its time, it's so outdated by today's standards that TVs are no longer made with the proper connection to attach the Atari 5200 for playing. Plugging the system into a 21st century TV requires a small, inexpensive adapter available online or at an electronics store. With the adapter, the Atari 5200 plugs into the same outlet as a VHF antenna or cable television connection.

Instructions

    • 1

Connect the Atari 5200's power cord and controllers, leaving only the TV connection unplugged. Locate a cable or VHF antenna connection on the back of your TV, which will look like a circular piece of metal, threaded like a screw, that protrudes from the TV.

    • 2

Screw the appropriate end of the RCA adapter into the TV's coaxial input. The correct end features a wider hole with a wire coming out the center.

    • 3

Plug the Atari 5200's RCA cable into the open end of the adapter. Turn the gaming console on and flip through the channels until you find the one the SuperSystem is set on, commonly either channels 2, 3 or 4.
