How to Set Up a Nintendo NES

The original home video game system designed by Nintendo was called the Nintendo Entertainment System, NES for short. Televisions of the late 1980s and early 1990s (the days when the NES was king) were designed differently than their modern counterparts, so devices like the NES connected to them in a specific way. When connecting the NES to a modern television, you must do so in an equally distinct fashion.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn around the television and NES, so you can see the back panels of both. You will notice a set of red and yellow cable inputs on the back of the NES and a set of red, yellow and white cable inputs on the back of the TV. The NES only outputs sound in one channel, so you will not use the white cable input on the TV.

    • 2

Plug the NES power cable into a wall outlet.

    • 3

Connect the red and yellow cables that came with your NES to the red and yellow inputs on the back of the system.

    • 4

Connect the other ends of the cables to the red and yellow inputs on the back of the TV.
