How to Connect an Atari to a Television

Some gamers may want to hook up an old Atari system to their television for a brief jaunt down virtual memory lane. Unless the television was made around roughly the same time as the Atari was decades ago, it's likely the old cables that came with the console won't plug directly into a modern television. Small adapters are available at most hardware and electronic stores that allow for a modern television to make a connection to a vintage Atari system.

Instructions

Plug the cable from the back of the Atari system into the coaxial converter. Aside from the cable that is to be plugged into a power outlet, there should only be one other cable on the game system. It should fit snugly and simply into the converter without a significant amount of force.

Plug the converter and cable into the back of the television. On the back of the television, there is a single plug that accommodates the coaxial end of the converter. It is usually located where the cord for a cable signal will go. After plugging in the converter, turn the screw around the converter up around the screw surrounding the input plug to secure it. This can be done by hand.

Turn on the Atari system. Then turn on the television and change the television's input settings so it displays what is going into its coaxial input. The Atari system should be displayed on the screen at this point.
