In 1987, Nintendo released "The Legend of Zelda," a groundbreaking adventure game for the NES. It was wildly successful and went on to spawn numerous sequels on multiple platforms. In "The Legend of Zelda," you play as Link, who must explore dungeons and solve puzzles on his way to rescuing the princess Zelda. Link's first task in the game is to obtain a sword, which you can use to defeat the wide range of enemies you will encounter on your quest.

Locate the cave toward the top of the opening screen. This is the screen you start on after beginning a new game.

Guide Link into the cave.

Wait for the old man to finish speaking, and move Link up to the sword. Link will pick up the sword, and you can now use it with the "A" button.
