Pac-Man Strategies

According to PacMan.com, the iconic video game began as "Puck Man" in 1980. Although "Puck Man" met with incredible success, the name was quickly changed to Pac-Man. In fact, "Pac-Man" became so ubiquitous that the business world adopted a strategy called the "Pac-Man strategy." The Pac-Man strategy, according to the Pac-Man website refers to the action of a business, about to be acquired, reversing direction and essentially "eating" (taking over) a hostile business.

Although the history of "Pac-Man" is rich and complex, a game is still a game. And like any other game, "Pac-Man" players require certain tricks and tips to win.
  1. Turn Corners

    • In a game of "Pac-Man," you deal with two enemies --- time and ghosts; both require speed and strategy to overcome. According to Web Pacman, one of the best tips for avoiding ghosts involves learning how to turn corners. Quickly turning corners doesn't refer to the corners at the four edges of a game board, but instead the "T" and four-way intersection corners throughout the middle of the game board. The value of turning corners is that when you turn corners, the ghosts often go straight, according to Web Pacman.

    Power Pills

    • Certain dots on the board allow Pacman to eat the ghosts. When you eat one of the so-called "Power Pills," the ghosts change color to blue and you can eat them. Web Pacman suggests waiting until several ghosts approach you to eat the Power Pill. At this point, you gain extra points and extra time to move around the board without ghosts chasing you. However, do not focus on the ghosts in areas that you already cleared. Going for these ghosts wastes your Power Pill time.

    Ghost Personalities

    • According to Web Pacman, each ghost in Pacman possesses an individual "personality." These "personalities" actually serve as prediction methods for the speed and actions of the ghost. For example, Blinky (the red ghost) accelerates when you eat a certain number of dots, Pinky (the pink ghost) moves out of scatter mode before any off the other ghosts, Inky (the turquoise ghost) reacts to situations unpredictably and Clyde (the yellow ghost) often makes mistakes, such as turning the wrong direction.

Occasionally, all of the ghosts retreat to their "home corners," according to Web Pacman. Blinky moves to the top right corner, Pinky goes to the top left, Inky moves to the bottom right and Clyde heads to the bottom left. When you see a scatter begin to happen, you can then predict the direction in which the various ghosts will move.
