How to Do the Late Punch on Mike Tyson's Punch Out

"Mike Tyson's Punch Out!!" is a classic boxing game on the original 8-bit Nintendo Entertainment System. You play as Little Mac, an undersized fighter who must box his way up through the rankings to earn a title shot against Mike Tyson. The game requires specific timing to exploit the various weaknesses of each opponent. The "late punch" was a technique of throwing a punch at the last possible moment after dodging an opponent's strike. The punch was only possible if you timed it correctly.

  Press the left or right arrow as the opponent punches to avoid the incoming blow.

  Push either the A or B button a split second after the opponent's punch is dodged. This will cause Mac to throw a body shot with either his left or right hand. Hold the up arrow at the same time and he will the punch will be thrown to the head. When timed correctly, the blow will do more damage and you will get a star, which allows you to throw an uppercut with the "Select" button.

  Repeat the steps every time the opponent punches to inflict maximum damage. If you punch too early, the blow won't do as much damage and you won't get a star. Punch too late and the blow won't land and you may get counter-punched.
