How to Set Up Arcade Video Games

Although home gaming consoles have largely replaced arcade video games, older systems remain extremely collectible, and many people still enjoy setting up older arcade games in their den or rec room. Thankfully, the arcade video game requires only a basic set up, as it already comes hardwired with the programming installed.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the quarter chamber on the front of the arcade video game. You don't want to constantly feed quarters into the game when you lose, so make sure the chamber stays open. A key, provided with the video game, unlocks it. Keep a quarter on hand, so you have easy access to the quarter after using it.

    • 2

Plug a surge protector into your wall outlet. Some classic arcade video games are collector's items and cost a great deal of money (some go for a few thousand dollars), so you want to protect yours from any electrical surges.

    • 3

Connect the power cable running from the rear of the arcade video game into an open power port on the surge protector.

    • 4

Power on the surge protector and flip any power switch located on the rear of the game (most power on simply by plugging into an outlet). You are now ready to begin playing your video arcade game.
