How to Put SNES Games on an iPod Touch

Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) classic games are still enjoyed by many gamers. Emulators now exist for many operating systems including iOS, so you can play SNES games directly on your iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. It requires a jailbroken device, and the snes4iphone emulator must be purchased and installed from the Cydia Store. The snes4iphone emulator offers a number of standard features including save states, full sound, zipped Read Only Memory (ROM) support, customized controller skins and a lightning-fast frame rate.

Instructions

  1. Install the SNES Emulator

      Jailbreak your iPod Touch. Your iPod Touch must be jailbroken to install the snes4iphone emulator.

      Open the Cydia Store and locate snes4iphone. Launch Cydia and click ̶0;Cydia Store" > "Products̶1; and search for "snes."

      Install snes4iphone. Cydia will prompt if you wish to install the app. It will cost $5.99 as of August 2010. Once it's installed, look for the emulator icon. You may have to scroll to the last home screen of your iPod Touch.

    Install the SNES game ROMs

      Find SNES game ROMs. Search Google for "snes rom" and browse through the results. You can also get SNES ROMs as torrents, so you'll just need to search a little in your favorite tracker.

      Download SNES game ROMs. Save them to your computer.

      Install ROMs on your iPod Touch. You will need an SSH client on your computer. SSH into your iPhone and copy the ROMs to the directory /var/mobile/media/ROMs/SNES.

      Download ROMs directly within snes4iphone. This is also supported, if you'd rather not SSH. Go to the "Browse" section of snes4iphone and click "Search" in the upper right corner of the screen.
