How to Play Street Fighter on Your Computer

The "Street Fighter" series, developed by industry legend Capcom, debuted in 1987 and became an instant console classic. In the game, players choose from a list of characters and are quickly pitted against each other in a classic "fighting genre" format (which "Street Fighter" helped to pioneer). Over twenty years later, early releases of the series are available freely for download online, and are playable on Microsoft operating systems.

Instructions

    • 1

Navigate to a website that hosts early "Street Fighter" releases (see Resources for several examples).

    • 2

Download the game from the website by clicking the appropriate link, i.e. "Download" or "Install." This will save the game as an EXE file, meaning that you need to open it again and complete installation manually.

    • 3

Double-click the "Street Fighter" file from your "Downloads" window, or if one does not appear, from your "My Documents" folder (files in EXE format save there by default). If you can't locate the file there, search "Street Fighter" in the "Start" menu search bar.

    • 4

Follow the instructions of the "Installation Wizard" that Windows uses to add programs, and click "Finish" when that option appears at the end of the installation process.

    • 5

Open the "Street Fighter" program either from your desktop or from the "All Programs" sub-menu of the "Start" menu.
