Collect eight stars of your choice. These can easily be obtained on the first level of the castle. Go for "Bob-Bomb Battlefield," "Jolly Roger Bay," and "Cool Cool Mountain." After acquiring these stars, go defeat the first Bowser in his level "Bowser in the Dark World."
Descend into the basement and collect seven more stars. "Lethal Lava Land," "Big Boo&'s Haunt," and "Shifting Sand Land" provide good places to get these stars.
Get the bunny! The yellow bunny roams the basement of the castle, and you have to catch him. He will award you a star, but since you already have 16 at this point, leave it.
Go to the door in the basement and stand near it, pressing the bunny into one of the door&'s hinges. Press "B" and release the forward button shortly afterward. This can take some time. When it succeeds, Mario will clip through the door. When this occurs, hold "Z" to face the bunny and pick it up. Release the bunny on the other side of the door by releasing "Z." Now the bunny will be out of the basement area. Pick him up again and bring him to the basement Star Door, then repeat the process to get on the other side.
Beat Bowser in his level "Bowser of the Fire Sea" and acquire the key. Afterwards, enter the adjoining water level and then immediately exit the course. This will put you back on the main floor of the castle. Use the key and enter the upper level.
Get to the staircase that ascends to the Star Door. You need to exploit another glitch in this area in order to bypass the Star Door. At the beginning of the staircase, perform a long jump away from the door, then hold "Z" and jump backwards toward the door. Then press "A" rapidly. If performed correctly, Mario should quickly ascend the staircase on his bottom, clipping through the Star Door and emerging in the Clock Room.
Jump to the final Star Door platform. You should now be able to access this door despite lacking the 70 stars required to open it. The Endless Staircase will remain endless unless you exploit the same glitch that allowed you to enter the Clock Room. Slide rapidly up the stairs and you should emerge in the final room. Again, this can be difficult to accomplish on the first try. Up in the level "Bowser in the Sky," show the Koopa King who&'s the real boss of the Mushroom Kingdom!
