Types of Problems
The most common problem on emulators is in-game objects can simply disappear. This problem may affect characters, environmental objects or even the environments themselves, making it appear the characters are floating in a void. Other types of graphic problems include black or green boxes or borders around characters and objects, and incorrect rendering of the game&'s textures, which makes on-screen objects hard to identify.
Causes
The reason for most emulation issues is the difference between hardware and software based effects. The Nintendo 64 contains several hardware chips designed to make graphic effects common to many games easier to reproduce quickly. Emulation software uses software code to simulate these chips, but if the code is faulty, common effects can display incorrectly. This can lead to subtle graphical inconsistencies, or very noticeable errors on more effects-driven sequences such as action scenes or in-game magic spells.
Solutions
There is no one emulator/ROM/plugin combination that guarantees smooth, error-free play on "Ogre Battle 64." Download various emulators (see Resources) and experiment with changing the graphicl settings and options within the software&'s "Plugins" section. Click the emulator&'s "Download Plugins" button to try different sets of code for rendering the game&'s graphics. The ROM you are using may also be faulty: experiment with different versions of the game ROM to find one that works with your machine.
Warnings
If your computer is not powerful enough to run Nintendo 64 emulators, no amount of emulator or plugin experimentation will fix the problems. If your machine does not contain at least an 800 Mhz (Megahertz) processor and GeForce 2 or better video card, you will be unable to run "Ogre Battle 64" on any emulator. Do not try to push the machine&'s hardware with registry hacks or "overclocking" tricks: these can permanently harm your computer. Try downloading the game to Nintendo Wii&'s Virtual Console instead.
Wii Effects
The Wii&'s Virtual Console channel sometimes makes "Ogre Battle 64" images appear abnormally thin or fat. This comes from an incorrect aspect ratio. To run Virtual Console games correctly, you may need to change the aspect ratio in the Wii&'s "Screen Settings" menu. Click the "Wii" button in the lower-left corner of the system&'s main menu to access this menu.
