List of Sports Games on the SNES

Nintendo's Super Entertainment System (SNES) featured some of the most popular video games of all time. Though it came out before the era of annual sports simulation sequels, the SNES still offered several games in the sports genre. SNES sports-themed games put less emphasis on realism, and focused instead on over-the-top, competitive gameplay. If you missed out on these SNES sports games originally, they are available on the Nintendo Wii's Virtual Console.
  1. Super Punch-Out!!

    • Super Punch-Out!! served as the sequel to the original Punch Out! for the Nintendo Entertainment System. This boxing game features 16 opponents for you to challenge, spread out across four circuits. Each opponent has a distinct appearance and fighting style, meaning you'll have to adjust your own strategy accordingly. Super Punch-Out!! features a cartoon style, and the matches don't always adhere to normal boxing rules--opponents will often kick you, grapple or use weapons.

    Super Mario Kart

    • Racing game Super Mario Kart launched the famous Mario Kart series by cramming eight popular Mario characters into tiny go-karts and racing them around convoluted tracks. You can use power-ups like mushrooms to get a speed boost, or weapons such as shells and banana peels to slow down other racers. The game's multiplayer modes lets you race against your friends or compete in a battle mode, where the goal is to pop your opponents' balloons before they pop yours.

    F-Zero

    • Nintendo's other racing franchise, F-Zero, ditches the power-ups and instead focuses on high-speed racing on futuristic tracks. You'll control a hover-car racing at speeds in excess of 300 to 400 miles per hour. Tracks send you barreling through tunnels, leaping off ramps and spiraling through loop-de-loops. The game offers 15 different tracks and a time trial mode, but there's no competitive multiplayer.

    Kirby's Dream Course

    • Long before Wii Sports brought golf to gamers, you could play a cartoony version of the sport in Kirby's Dream Course. Pink puffball Kirby replaces the standard golf ball, and his enemies serve as obstacles. Rather than set a par like standard golf games, Kirby has hit points, which he loses whenever you hit him with the golf club. You need to get him into the hole before his hit points run out.
