How to Open Black Treasure Boxes in Chrono Trigger

Throughout the game Chrono Trigger, you may notice mysterious black treasure chests that you cannot open. These chests are magically sealed closed and can only be opened by charging up Marle's Pendant. This is done in the Zeal Palace in 12,000 BC. After you charge the pendant you may need to jump back and forth in time to find and open all the black chests.

  Travel to Enhasa on the floating continent in 12,000 BC.

  Head west across the bridge and then north into the cave. You will have to travel the whole length of the cave and warp several times through the network of caves to reach the top of the mountain. Now enter Zeal Palace.

  Walk from the main room to the west and head down the steps. From here, proceed north. You will see Schala use her pendant to open the door, in front of two people standing near the door.

  Talk to the two people by the door; they will mention Marle's Pendant. After this, head west and talk to the Nu in front of the door leading to the Mammon Machine.

  Go through the door and north through the hallway. You should see a red crystal. Go up to the crystal and press "A." Your pendant is now charged and you can open the black treasure boxes.
