How to Erase Data on a Nintendo 64 Memory Card

The Nintendo 64 (often referred to as the N64) uses a different memory-card setup than most other home consoles. Rather than connect directly to the console, the N64's memory card connects to the controller. Additionally, you cannot access the memory-card manager directly from the start-up menu. A specific process is required to access the N64's memory-card manager. Once you access the manager, you can delete game data with ease.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off your Nintendo 64. Make sure a game cartridge is inserted into the console.

    • 2

Insert the memory card into the controller pack. Push it down gently to make sure it's properly connected.

    • 3

Press and hold "Start" on your controller. Continue to hold "Start," and then turn the system on.

    • 4

Release "Start" when the memory-card manager screen is displayed.

    • 5

Browse through the saved data. Select the game data you want to erase. Choose "Delete." Repeat as necessary if you want to delete multiple files.
