How to Do a System Link on an Xbox

You can use the system link feature on a variety of games for the original Xbox to play against a large number of people without an Internet connection. This feature lets you link several Xbox consoles for multiplayer gaming and works best in a house with multiple televisions and Xbox consoles or a college dormitory. Games like Halo allow four Xbox consoles to be linked with up for four players on each console, allowing for 16 players to compete at the same time, whereas other games may allow only one player on each console.

Things You'll Need

  • 1 game disc for each player
  • Ethernet cables
  • Ethernet hub or router (optional, for more than two consoles only)

Instructions

    • 1

Ensure that the Xbox consoles are off before connecting or disconnecting any Ethernet cables.

    • 2

Connect two Xbox consoles via one Ethernet cable if you're only playing with two consoles. You'll find the Ethernet port on the backside of your Xbox console.

    • 3

Connect each Xbox console to an Ethernet hub if you're playing with three or more consoles (in this scenario you will need one Ethernet cable per Xbox).

    • 4

Power on all the Xbox consoles being used and insert a game disc into each. Follow the game documentation to begin your system link play.
