How to Hook Up My NES System to My Television

The NES system is a classic gaming system that paved the way for the Wii and video game franchises like Super Mario. While there are plenty of new consoles and games to choose from, the NES system provides nostalgic gaming and a simple two-button controller. With the change in television technology, connecting an NES system to a television may be a little more challenging than it was in the late-1980s.

Instructions

    • 1

Set the Nintendo up on top or below the television. This gives the console the easiest reach for cables and cords.

    • 2

Verify that the cords are plugged into the back of the NES console. There are two cords: the power cable and the television connection cable.

    • 3

Plug the power cable into an outlet and loop the television connection cable behind the television.

    • 4

Connect the coaxial cable into the ̶0;Cable Input̶1; of an RF modulator. RF modulators offer multiple connection points to a television and allow multiple devices to connect to a television like video game consoles, DVD players and VCRs.

    • 5

Plug in a set of RCA cables with two audio cables and one video cable. Connect this to the ̶0;Output̶1; of the RF modulator.

    • 6

Connect the other end of the RCA cables into an RCA input on the television. These inputs are usually found on the bottom-front, back or side of the television. Take note of which input you are plugging the cables into.

    • 7

Select the ̶0;Input̶1; button on your television remote until you reach the Nintendo input.

    • 8

Press the ̶0;Power̶1; button on the NES console and see if it loads on the screen. If it does not load, look at the television connection on the NES and flip the little switch from ̶0;Channel 3̶1; to ̶0;Channel 4.̶1; The console should be seen on the television now.
