Warp Whistle
The game contains three warp whistles that allow Mario to skip past worlds to inch closer to his goal of rescuing the princess and saving Mushroom World. The first and easiest to obtain of these whistles is in World 1-3. Crouch for five seconds on a white block near the end of the level. This will send Mario into the background. Instead of finishing the level, when you reach the end Mario will pass behind the goal into a mushroom house. Inside this house is a treasure chest with the warp whistle.
Level 8 Warp
Once you obtain two warp whistles, you can skip directly to the final world, World 8. Use one warp whistle to enter the warp zone. Once there, use a second warp whistle to move to the World 8 pipe. Now you are just a few levels away from facing Bowser. You can use this trick from any world to get to World 8.
Endless Extra Lives
Make sure you have the raccoon tail and stand next to the horizontal pipe in World 1-2. Wait for a few Goombas to come out of the pipe. Jump on one, and then hold the "A" button. This will send you high into the air. Repeat this process to continue to land on Goombas (which keep coming out of the pipe) without touching the ground. Your score will rise, and eventually you will earn 1-Ups each time you land on a Goomba.
Match Game Cheat
Each time you earn 80,000 points in the game, the matching card game will appear on the map. Every time you match two similar items, you will earn that power-up for use in the game. Miss twice and the minigame ends. Use a pen and paper to write down the location of items in this minigame so that you can win more items each successive time you play it.
