Fun Frog Games

Despite the barrage of video games that has flooded the home entertainment market since the 80s, there are surprisingly few games out there involving protagonist frogs. Mario had a frog suit in the third Super Mario Bros, but few game developers have created games based entirely on frogs. Whatever the reason may be, the few frog games that did make it to the video screen include some classics.
  1. Ribbit King

    • Ribbit King is a golfing game--kind of. You're actually playing Frolf, a golf-style game played with frogs. Rather than the traditional golf rules of trying to get a ball in a hole in the least number of strokes, Ribbit King relies on scoring points by sending your frogs through an assortment of cartoon environments. You rack up points by jumping through hoops, getting bonuses and getting eaten by creatures who spit you out at other points in the level. Instead of golf clubs, you get several tools and upgrades that assist you in your frog adventure. The cartoon characters make the game fun for people of all ages, from kids to adults.

    Frogger

    • Frogger, developed for the original Playstation, took the original arcade game to a new platform level, with intense sequences, new dangers and great gameplay. Essentially, the developers took the original Frogger, turned it 3D and added new concepts to the game. Rather than just racing across a busy street, which you still have to do, you now have to jump platforms in a factory, run from hives of bees and even jump on clouds to save the frog's five little friends. This game also gives Frogger special abilities when he eats bugs of different colors, which are sometimes necessary to dodge past endless enemies in an effort to find his scattered frog companions. Though Playstation's Frogger found innovative ways to introduce the game to a new audience base, it did so in a way that didn't compromise everything that was great about the original.

    Battletoads

    • Though the Battletoads are indeed toads and not frogs, they're similar enough to enjoy all the same--plus, it's arguable that at least one of the toad characters in the game is indeed a frog. The Battletoads series is one of the most simultaneously satisfying and frustrating side-scrollers ever made, simply because the gameplay is great and the level difficulties are insane. There are several Battletoads games for the Nintendo, Game Boy, Super Nintendo and Sega Genesis, as well as a stand-alone arcade game. All of the games, excluding the Game Boy release, have a multiplayer option, which can work both to your benefit and your detriment, as many levels require both players to start over from the beginning when you continue; however, this function improved after the first game. Battletoads is a great series and one of the most fun games you'll find involving frogs.
