Instructions for Hooking Up a Nintendo 64 Game System

The Nintendo 64 isn't the big time console it used to be. It's long been out of production and your best bet to find one is through a secondhand video game retailer. If you're concerned about hooking it up, the process is comparable to some later generation games. The advantage to having a N64 is you'll again have access to exclusive games like "Super Mario 64" and "The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time." Both feature prominently on lists such as IGN's "Top 100 Games."

Instructions

    • 1

Hook the Nintendo 64 power supply into the large slot on the back of the game system (right side). Plug it into a wall outlet, surge protector or extension cord.

    • 2

Connect the multi-out (which has three plugs---red, white and yellow---on one end) into the port on the back of the game system (left side).

    • 3

Plug the red, white and yellow AV plugs into the corresponding AV input on your television or VCR. This could be on the back of your television or VCR, although some television models will have AV inputs in the front or side.

    • 4

Connect the desired number of Nintendo 64 controllers into the four inputs on the front of the system.

    • 5

Insert the game cartridge into the slot on the top of the console, with the decal on the front of the cartridge facing forward (The N64 was one of the last consoles to use cartridges instead of discs).
