History
The first "Legend of Zelda" game was simply entitled "The Legend of Zelda." Players moved Link through an open-ended map to battle monsters and rescue the Princess Zelda. The second big release for the series came on the Super Nintendo system and was entitled "The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past."
Significance
The series has spawned numerous toys, collectibles, comic books and an animated television series that lasted for 13 episodes.
Considerations
Throughout every game, Link has been left-handed, but this was reversed for the Wii version of the game because players would mainly be using their right hand to battle with the sword. Now he is considered both left and right handed.
Function
Link mainly uses a sword to battle enemies and the Wii version of "The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess" allows players to swing the Wii remote and dual with the sword. The Wii Zapper Gun is also used to play with Link's crossbow.
Types
Link appears as different ages throughout the various games, but he is either a young child or a grown teen and never an adult. His youngest incarnation in the "The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Walker" and his oldest is in "The Legend of Zelda: The Twilight Princess."
