How to Download Dreamcast VMU Games to the VMU

The Visual Memory Unit (VMU) is a memory disk that fit into the controller of Sega̵7;s classic Dreamcast video game console. The console is now an antique--games for it are no longer manufactured, but it's still considered a fan favorite. The simplest way to download games that can be played on the VMU is through actual Dreamcast games. There are also many third-party VMU games available on the Internet, but they aren̵7;t under copyright for Sega and you risk internal damage to your system when using such outside files.

Instructions

  Insert the VMU into your Dreamcast controller before starting a game. Make sure you have sufficient space on your VMU to fit new mini-games. Insert the ̶0;Powerstone̶1; game if you have it available and bring the game up to play.

  Click on the ̶0;Mini-games̶1; option from the main menu. The ̶0;Powerstone̶1; game features three mini-games that you can download onto your VMU.

  Click on either ̶0;Gunrock̵7;s Gun-Gun Slot,̶1; ̶0;Falcon̵7;s Aerial Adventure̶1; and ̶0;Ayame̵7;s Shuriken Training.̶1; Click on the option to download the game to your VMU and wait for the download transfer to complete.

  Insert the ̶0;Sonic Adventure̶1; game into your Dreamcast and begin playing the game. Go to the Chao hatching center. Grab a hatched Chao and drag it over to the VMU icon in the garden. The ̶0;Chao Adventure̶1; mini-game will now be on your VMU.

  Insert the ̶0;Trickstyle̶1; and go to the VMU game from the main menu. Click on the ̶0;Trickstyle Jr̶1; game to download it to your VMU.

  Insert the ̶0;Zombie Revenge̶1; game and go to the ̶0;Mini-games̶1; option from the main menu. Click on each game to download it to your VMU.

  Turn off your Dreamcast and eject the VMU from your controller. The games you downloaded should now be playable on the VMU.
