Complete each level to find six power stars. There are 15 levels and 90 stars to be gained in this manner.
Collect 100 coins on a level to earn another power star. This can be done once per level and will earn you a total of 15 stars.
Collect the eight red coins in each of the three Bowser levels in the game to receive three more power stars.
Find the three special toads in the game to get three power stars. One is in the basement, one is on the second floor and one is on the third floor.
Collect the eight red coins in each of the red, green and blue switch stages to get a total of three power stars.
Ascend the staircase on the first floor and enter the door marked "1." Jump through the stained-glass window on the far right to find the princess's secret slide. Complete the slide to earn a power star. Finish the slide in less than 21 seconds to earn a second star.
Enter the door marked with a "3" to the right of the castle's entrance on the first floor. Jump through the black space to the right of the doorway to access the secret aquarium. Collect eight red coins to earn a power star.
Descend to the basement of the castle once you have collected 20 power stars. Enter the room at the far end of the hall that has water on the floor to find a yellow rabbit. Press the "B" button to catch the rabbit and earn a star. Capture the rabbit a second time after earning 50 power stars to receive another star.
Take the stairs to the third floor, go to the left and jump through the hole in the wall across from the rainbow ride. Enter a second black hole to access the Wing Mario Over the Rainbow secret level. Use the wing cap to collect eight red coins and receive a power star.
