How to Shoot Fireballs as Small Mario on Super Mario for NES

If you are an avid Super Mario Bros fan, you already know that the fire flower is probably the best weapon you can get for Mario. But it can be frustrating that you can only get fire power as big Mario. On some levels, such as ones involving water, it is better to play as small Mario because it is easier to avoid the Bloopers (bad guys). But as small Mario, you can't defend yourself against the Bloopers because the only thing that harms them is fire power.

Getting Fire Power as Small Mario

  Play to World 1, Level 4 and make sure you are big Mario when you get to Bowser.

  Jump over or run under Bowser to get to the other side of him.

  Stand near the axe and wait for Bowser to come toward you.

  Jump high up as Bowser gets right next to you, and come down so that you touch both Bowser and the axe.

  Wait to see that Mario flashes as if he were going to shrink, but stays big Mario.

  Finish the level, and when you get to the next level, get a mushroom. Even though you are big Mario, there will be a mushroom, not a flower.

  Take the mushroom and you will become small.

  Find a fire flower and take it, and you will have fire power as small Mario.
