How to Download Zelda Games for PJ64

The Pj64 software, also known as Project64 is an emulation program that allows gamers to play Nintendo 64 games over their computer. These games are available in the form of ROMS, which are electronic backup files that can be downloaded if you already own a copy of the game. The Legend of Zelda games released on the Nintendo 64 can be downloaded and played through Project64, allowing gamers to once again experience titles originally released in 1998.

Instructions

    • 1

Download the most recent version of the Project64 software. As of October 2009, version 1.6 is the latest release with version 1.7 in the beta-testing phase. You can find the software on the Project64 homepage.

    • 2

Install the Project64 software onto your computer. You will need to have at least a Pentium 3 or AMD Athlon 800Mhz processor and 256MB of RAM to effectively run the software and any downloaded Zelda games. Also free up 1GB of hard drive space for the software, games, saves and updates.

    • 3

Visit a website that carries ROMS such as RomNation or DopeRoms. Search their catalog for the Zelda games that appeared on the Nintendo 64.

    • 4

Download the zip file containing your Zelda game. The Project64 software will only play Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask. Zelda games released on previous consoles will need their own emulator to function.

    • 5

Unzip the downloaded Zelda game and place it in a folder on your computer's desktop. Launch the Project64 software and open the "Rom Browser" from the main menu.

    • 6

Select the folder where your Zelda Rom is located and then choose the ROM file. It should be the only file listed in the browser. This will launch the game in Project64.
