How to Install the Dragon Quest VI English Patch

The sixth entry in the "Dragon Quest" series of role-playing games was never released outside of Japan. This means that players looking to play that chapter of the saga either need to be fluent in the Japanese language or find a way to translate the game. Using a ROM of the game, an independent translator has created a patch that will replace the game's Japanese test with English, making the game playable for English-speaking fans of the series.

Download the "Dragon Quest VI" translation by the author NoPrgress. This translation changes all story and menu text to English.

    • 3

Download the Lunar IPS software. This software allows you to apply the translation patch onto a ROM file.

    • 4

Open the folder that contains the "Dragon Quest VI" ROM and rename it "dq6e.smc"

    • 5

Launch the Lunar IPS software. Choose "Apply IPS Patch" from the menu.

    • 6

Choose the "Dragon Quest VI" translation file. This should be labeled as "dq6e.IPS"

    • 7

Choose the ROM file that will be patched. This will be the ROM file you renamed. You must have the file names match or it will not be patched correctly.

    • 8

      Launch your SNES emulator.
