Setting Up the Console
When the Colecovision was first released, video game systems were attached to the UHF and VHF terminals on the back of the television. Most of today's televisions do not have these terminals anymore, so you must purchase twin-lead-to-coaxial converters from an electronics or audio/video store. Connect the appropriate converter to each side of the Colecovision's switch box. Disconnect the coaxial cable from the back of your television and connect it to the switch box on the side labeled "connect to antenna." Connect the other end of the switch box to the coaxial cable jack on the rear of your television. Connect the Colecovision's video cable to the switch box and game console. Insert the power supply's jack into the rear of the game console and plug the power cord into an electrical socket.
Playing a Game
Be sure the ColecoVision's power is turned off before inserting or removing a cartridge into the console. Turn the cartridge so that the text on the end label is right side up and insert it into the slot. Set the channel switch to either 3 or 4, depending on your preference. Most cable systems use channel 3, so you may have clearer reception if you use channel 4. Turn on the television and set it to the same channel as the console's channel switch. Slide the lever on the antenna switch box to "game." Turn the ColecoVision power switch on and press the reset button. You should now see the game's title screen on your television.
Using the Controllers
Connect the controllers to the jacks inside the controller storage compartment on the game console. If your game cartridge uses an overlay, slide it into the top of the controller so that it covers the numbers on the keypad. If there is no overlay, you will use the number buttons from one to eight to choose options before starting a game. Pressing the asterisk key after finishing a game will replay the game with the same option. Pressing the pound key will take you back to the option selection screen.
