Gil Usage
The way to best make gil is to find jobs that are available across the world depending on your level. There is farming to sell items at auction, from the Beastman Blood to Cockatrice Meat to Lizard eggs, skins or tails, but be careful of a flood in the market when you shop your wares. Fishing can fetch a nice profit as long as the best catch doesn't escape your lures. Mining precious ores, logging types of wood, crafting objects from bone to gold for yourself to sell or other crafters, Chocobo digging where you take a rented bird out to the terrain and have it dig for valuable items, or simple gardening to relax the weary soul. The most important thing for each is location -- and in order to reach fertile ground is to earn gil and upgrade your character to explore the deeper regions of the world.
Another method is the Burning Circle Notorious Monster (BCNM) events. The Burning Circle is an arena where you and/or your party can compete against mobs in various dungeons for a certain time limit after trading orbs which drop weapons and items, which in turn you can sell for more gil from shops. There are tougher opponents in the arena but they usually give you the best opportunity to create quick gil.
Quests are another great source to make gil so long as it is worth the time and expense of yourself or party to accomplish the task. Again, the items earned for completing such adventures are random and thus hard to pinpoint which ones are the best to yield the most gil. Yet, some items may help to advance your character to other avenues that might not be open to you before and thus create opportunities to earn gil.
There is the old-fashioned way of battling various monsters in the world to level up your character and also earn gil along of the way to advance weapons, armor and spells if possible. The greater your strength, the more locations and better monsters you can fight, which in turn will earn you more gil.
