How to Use a Memory Card with the Sega Dreamcast

The Sega Dreamcast uses a save system that features a memory card, a controller and the console. The memory cards are compact and portable so that you can carry your saved games with you wherever you go. A memory card is not required for some Dreamcast games; however, there are games that need to use a memory card to save the data. It is crucial to use a memory card with the Sega Dreamcast so that you do not lose data.

Instructions

  Insert the Sega Dreamcast memory card into the game controller. All Dreamcast controllers have a slot on the top of the device. Push the connector side of the card into the controller until it snaps into place.

  Open the lid of the Sega Dreamcast before you press the "Power" button. After it is open, press the "Power" button. This will allow you to access the memory card before you begin playing your game.

  Select "File" from the main menu with the "A" or "B" buttons. The "Memory Card Management" screen will display. Press the "A" or "B" button to open your Sega Dreamcast memory card. This will present space left on the card as well as saved game information.

  Delete and copy saved content by selecting the data that you want to remove or copy with the control pad. This will highlight the file. Press the "A" button. Move through the options on the screen by pressing "down" or "up" on the control pad. Use the "A" button to copy or delete.

  Exit out of the "Memory Card Manager" by selecting the "Back" icon twice. Close the lid and then select "Play" from the menu.
